Pop-up car rally’s or sometimes called pop-up parties are when hundreds of people show up at a single location taking over the roads or parking lots with unsanctioned car races and motorcycle stunts while bystanders look on. The location is sent out usually through social media and word of mouth drawing hundreds of people.

A Pop-up Car Rally turned deadly in March when two motorcycles performing stunts crashed into each other. The two men were part of a large group gathered in a parking lot. The drivers collided as they drove towards each other. The two Motorcyclist died at the scene. Multiple motorcyclists were doing stunts in the same parking lot at the time of the crash.

Jacksonville Florida Sheriff’s Office Gets Tough with Pop-up Car Rally’s

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office with the help of the Florida Highway Patrol arrested 36 people, wrote 503 tickets and 128 warnings during a Pop-up car rally bust on Jacksonville’s Northside. Jacksonville’s Police Department believe the crackdown has helped reduce the number of Pop-up Car Rally’s around Jacksonville, Florida.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office issued a warning on Facebook for those participating in Pop-Up Rally’s

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is aware of the recent increase in car and motorcycle groups gathering in parking lots of local businesses and on our roadways.  It has also been recognized that some of the participants are creating dangerous situations for not only themselves but also for the citizens around them.

Due to the potential dangers caused by some of these individuals, JSO takes these events very seriously and will not tolerate this type of behavior in our city.  We are collaborating with other state and local partners and have implemented a proactive solution which incorporates both education and enforcement strategies to address these issues.

Two Young Adults Died, and Two others Were Injured in a Pop-up Rally Auto Accident

A Pop-up Car Rally on the Jersey Shore Saturday, September 24th became a deadly event when two people died and others were injured. There were at least 500 people at the rally according to police. Gerald White was driving his 2003 Infiniti when he crashed into a Honda Civic. Two died in that car crash. One of the Civic passengers, Timothy Ogden, 34 died in the crash and an 18-year-old pedestrian, Lindsay Weakland.  Two others were injured in the car crash. One of the witnesses at the scene told the police that White never hit the brakes after crashing into Lindsay Weakland the 18-year-old pedestrian.
