Brunswick, Georgia was the scene of a fatal pedestrian crash Friday night. A Southeast Georgia Health employee was struck by a vehicle near Parkwood Drive. Kurk Batterson a 48-year-old Brunswick resident has been charged with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence in connection with the death of Shakerya Brown the 27-year-old hospital employee. According to the Brunswick Police Department, Shakerya Brown was walking near a crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle heading west on Parkwood Drive. Shakerya Brown was transported to UF Health in Jacksonville, Florida where she died. Shakeya Brown was a resident of Brunswick, Georgia.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, every 45 minutes someone in the United Sates becomes an alcohol-impaired traffic death. In 2020 our nation increased DUI related traffic deaths by 14% over 2019. Tragically, 11,654 deaths were preventable.
