Distracted Driving Kills
A fatal hit-and-run car crash that killed a local pastor has led to the conviction and sentencing of the driver that caused his death. Lindsay Brown was Asistant Pastor at New Life Evangelistic Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Pastor Brown was admired for his spiritual leadership and generous heart. Lindsay Brown was struck by a vehicle on September 16, 2020, on Crystal Springs Road. The driver William Hodge struck Pastor Brown so hard with his vehicle that parts of the front grill of his auto were left on the road along with Pastor Brown’s shoes. Hodge left the scene without reporting the crash or even calling an ambulance. A witness saw his shoes in the street and found Pastor Brown still alive. He died at the hospital later that day. William Hodge admitted that he fell asleep at the wheel when he killed Pastor Brown with his vehicle. William Hodge turned himself in after confessing to a friend. William Hodge was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
