Waycross Fatal Firetruck Accident
Waycross Fatal Firetruck Accident claimed the life of a firefighter last week. Bobby “Blue” Smith was on duty riding in the front seat of the firetruck when the truck crashed and overturned. The crash occurred in Waycross Georgia on Manor-Millwood Road around 12:30 last Thursday. According to the Georgia State Patrol a firefighter was driving a Ware County fire truck when the driver traveled off the roadway and lost control. The truck continued to spin as it flipped across the roadway, hit a tree, and landed on the passenger side of the truck in the ditch. The victim Bobby “Blue” Smith was sitting in the front passenger seat.

Crash Investigation
The firefighter died at the scene. The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting the Georgia State Patrol with the investigation. It is not clear at this time if there was a problem with another vehicle in the firetrucks path or the lack of maneuverability given the size and weight of the truck loaded with water contributed to the accident.
Fire Chief Dee Meadows requested prayers for the family and friends of the firefighter. Bobby “Blue” Smith a Waycross Georgia native. He was only 24-years-old.
